Biography

S. Wade McCord - Macon-Bibb County Tax Commissioner

Wade was born in Atlanta, Georgia and grew up in Oxford, Georgia. Wade attended Newton County Public Schools and graduated from Newton County Comprehensive High school.

Wade started in the Macon-Bibb County Tax Commissioner’s office in 1995 as the Assistant Deputy of Collections. He assisted with the day-to-day management of the Collections Department with duties of managing the County’s Bankruptcy caseload, coordinated all “field” collections and conducted the sale of levied property. In 2000, Wade was promoted to the position of the Manager of the Farmers’ Market Tax/Tag Office on Eisenhower Parkway. He managed the day to day operation of the office which provided service to 60% of the walk-in taxpayers in Bibb County. Wade was again promoted in 2005 to Chief Deputy Tax Commissioner after the election of Mr. Thomas W. Tedders, Jr. He served as Chief Deputy for 10 years managing the daily operations of the Tax Commissioner’s Office. Wade became Tax Commissioner on September 1, 2015 upon the retirement of Mr. Tedders and won the seat in the general election of 2016.

Wade has 30 plus years of military service that consisted of active duty Army and Georgia Army National Guard. He was assigned to Alpha Company 1st Battalion 75th Ranger Regiment. Wade deployed to many areas of the world to include Central and South America and the Middle East. Wade left active duty and joined the Georgia Army National Guard where he served in many leadership roles with his final assignment being the Command Sergeant Major of the 648th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade. Wade has been awarded the Expert Marksmanship Badge in multiple weapons, Jordanian Jump Wings, U.S. Airborne Wings, Expert Field Medical Badge, Expert Infantryman’s Badge, Combat Infantryman’s Badge and the Army Ranger Tab. Wade’s military medals include multiple federal service and state active duty ribbons to include three Meritorious Service Medals, the Bronze Star and the Legion of Merit.

Wade holds a Bachelors of Science degree from Georgia College and State University with dual majors in Political Science and Criminal Justice and a minor in Public Administration. Wade earned a Certificate of Government Management from the Carl Vinson School of Government, University of Georgia and he is a graduate of the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy.

Wade has been active in the community since moving to Macon. He is a current member of The Salvation Army Advisory Board. He is a past board member and President of The Exchange Club of Macon and Big Brothers/Big Sisters of the Heart of Georgia.
